A paper walkthrough exercise with a self-check rubric

Invent a modest hypothetical event on paper and produce the full document trail for it. Score yourself against a rubric to find which lifecycle phase is genuinely weak, not just unfamiliar in vocabulary.

Exercise: design a hypothetical half-day community festival for roughly three hundred attendees at a public park. On paper, produce a goal statement, a one-page concept description, a category-level budget, a vendor list with what each contract must specify, a simple production timeline from load-in to load-out, a run-of-show skeleton, and a contingency plan with at least two triggers. Work from observation of real events you have attended or worked, and keep every number clearly labeled as invented for practice.

Then score the walkthrough against this rubric, one point each, with a target of eight or more as a learning milestone rather than a prediction of any exam result. Score honestly and redo the weakest phase end to end before moving on.

This exercise exposes a specific kind of gap that rereading notes cannot: knowing a term without knowing where it attaches.
